She's far from a shrinking violet when it comes to her usual dazzling and daring sense of style.
But Katy Perry missed the fashion mark as she attended the 2013 People's Choice Awards at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on Wednesday night.
Looking worlds away from her usual showstopping red carpet style, the 28-year-old singer appeared uncharacteristically frumpy in her bizarre Bavarian-style dress.

With the plain garment more suited to a prim and proper luncheon than a star-studded awards ceremony, the Part Of Me hitmaker covered up her incredible curves in the black floral number.

Katy was evidently living by the less is more mantra as she stepped out for the evening, with the star opted for a simple plaited up-do hairstyle and neutral hues on her lips and eyes.
The brunette beauty completed her red carpet look with a pair of gold and amber drop earrings and plain black heeled pumps.

In spite of her fashion fail, the pop starlet practically swept the board at the awards, scooping four accolades for Pop Artist, Female Artist and Music Video (Part of Me), while her KatyCats won Favorite Music Fan Following.
But Katy was by no means the only star who got it wrong on the night.
Christina Aguilera, 32, did little to flatter her curvaceous figure in an ill-fitting white satin blazer and matching waistcoat as she accepted the People's Voice Award.

Although the Old Hollywood style of the dress was no-doubt well-intentioned, the high neck design and excess fabric created a far from flattering overall look.
